About Mike

Mike Scantlebury

The Manchester Modern Murder Mystery novels series.

What bad luck!

Regular vistors to this site, (as well as new arrivals), will eventually be made aware that some of the 'unpublished' novels listed in Part 2 are illustrated by odd and intriguing photos of a gushingly handsome male model, gazing mysteriously into the distance. This is an example of one of Mike's 'mysteries'. He was rather hoping that you would assume that this uncredited pensive hunk was really his hero, Mickey, apparently in a state of contemplation, preoccupied with the current case.

Little did Mike know that his 'unknown actor', whom he had assiduously clipped out of an unamed Sunday supplement several years ago, was in fact, the supremely talented Daniel Craig - soon to become the new James Bond. Several apologetic letters later, he is now hoping not be sued, at least not about this matter.

Of course, there is a link here. Regular readers of Mike's murder mysteries, (as well as new arrivals), will soon see the flirtatious references to Ian Fleming's dashing spy hero in such works as 'Black and White' and 'Emir Murder'.

There may be a prize for identifying exactly what those are.

Fake Mick

Mike Hamer is the pen name for an active and energetic 45 year old, with a wife and two children, who has lived in the heart of Manchester for nearly twenty years. He has over ten years experience of working with and for the City Council and was a valued member of the political scene for many years. He is now an astute and abrasive observer of recent developments, and maintains an independent and critical stance. He has also been known to display a sense of humour, not always to make people feel comfortable. He enjoys holidays, and has been seen singing folk songs with his wife. Currently, Mike is busy writing scripts for 'The Archers', a well-known radio soap opera.

Famer

It has been alleged by some regional publications that individual volumes of the 'Manchester Modern Murder Mystery' series are being produced by computer, or possibly a committee.

Neither of these things is true.

In fact the most recent volume was written by Bristol-born author Mike Scantlebury over the winter of 1993 in a hunting lodge on the grim, remote and historic island of Kyle Lanach off the north west coast of Scotland, while Mike was working as temporary relief caretaker for the owner, his old school-friend, Lord Obermory of Tilguish.

The Laird reports spoons missing.

Currently, Mike is auditioning for a role in 'The Archers', a well-known radio soap opera.

When not busy writing Mike pursues his claim to the throne.

Mike's lawyer has alleged that his client is the off-spring of an overnight liaison between H.R.H. Prince Philip and a chambermaid, while the royal Consort was staying at the Hotel Royale in Bristol during a state visit in the summer of 1949. Since we know that Mike is older than Princess Anne, this would give him a good claim on the right to the next King, should his assertion be vindicated and should Prince Charles resign his own ambition before his mother dies, (as seems likely).

Mike is programmed to attend the King Edward VII Military Hospital this year to begin an extensive series of tests, including genetic fingerprinting.
